Reflections and Advice:

1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative to other boarding schools?
Goal orientation, and the self-discipline and cooperation necessary to achieve those goals may be unique to MMA, and other military schools like it.
2.) What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school?
I was a company commander. Achieved rank of Captain. I received recognition in academics and sports: honorary society, letters in tennis, track, and wrestling, the soldier’s bar, various other medals. By-lines in the school newspaper.
3.) What might you have done differently during your boarding school experience?
I would not have done anything differently when I first arrived. I became familiar with my surroundings and the other cadets. As I did thereafter, the cadet officers and others assisted me in my acclimation.
4.) What did you like most about your school?
The pomp and circumstance!
5.) Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students to your school?
Observe. As I was the A Company Commander, I recommend that overall. Except for a classroom at D, A housed all the classrooms, making going to class so much less daunting on bad weather days(of which there were not many). Of course, the campus may be entirely different now.

Academics:

1.) Describe the academics at your school - what did you like most about it?
Small class sizes facilitated participation with classmates and instructors. Dormitory regulation permitted better study habits and consultation with other students. Cadets came from across the Country and World unlike most grade and high schools, thus facilitating a natural diversity of experiences and perspectives.

Athletics:

1.) Describe the athletics at your school - what did you like most about it?
Varsity and intercompany sports provided participation at all levels of proficiency for many sports. Varsity: football, basketball, baseball, swimming, track, tennis, wrestling. Everyone had to participate in sports activities at either the varsity or intramural level. MMA was competitive with the schools against which it competed.

Art, Music, and Theatre:

1.) Describe the arts program at your school - what did you like most about it?
MMA had marching band, orchestra, theatre; maybe art classes and art exhibits.

Extracurricular Opportunities:

1.) Describe the extracurriculars offered at your school - what did you like most about it?
In addition to band and orchestra, on was involved in the school newspaper as a reporter and the an editor. I enjoyed all these activities.

Dorm Life:

1.) Describe the dorm life in your school - what did you like most about it?
Each cadet had a roommate selected initially by the school; thereafter by the roommates. The environment was peaceful and conducive to good habits of study and participation.

Dining:

1.) Describe the dining arrangements at your school.
MMA had a dining hall. Cadets were seated at tables so to permit intermingling of cadets from different companies, as I recall, with a cadet officer at the head. Faculty sat at a head table apart. All non-officer cadets served as waiters on a rotating basis so to include them all over the course of a year as I recall. The food was diverse and good.

Social and Town Life:

1.) Describe the school's town and surrounding area.
Mexico, Missouri was a very nice town which cadets could visit Wednesday afternoons and weekend afternoons. Cadets also went to church services Sunday mornings by marching in formation to and from except to those churches where there would only be a few cadets attending who would just walk. Jewish cadets held their service on campus.
2.) Describe the social life at your school - what did you like most about it?
Social life was dependent on cadets finding Mexico high school girls willing to date cadets. There were fancy formal military balls at intervals. So that was an enticement. Actually meeting girls to date was dependent on church participation, or the grace and favor of other cadets. Many cadets relied on parents and siblings to bring along dates for these balls.
