About the Author:

Years Attended ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø School:
2016-2021
Sports and Activities:
There is a drill team here that they offer, and it is called BlackJacks. I was on the BlackJack team for 3 years and it taught me to work towards something and was also very competitive. I was also part of the student ambassadors since 8th grade. I would give families tours one on one and show them the campus and ask all the questions they had. I would also be at open houses when multiple families would want to come on tour. I was a Boy Scout for 3 years and I learned multiple things doing that. Some weekends I would volunteer at the dog shelter.
College Enrolled:
CU Boulder
Home Town, State:
Hesperus, CO

Reflections and Advice:

1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative to other boarding schools?
There is a brotherhood that can be found nowhere else. I would not trade in my experience here for anything. This has been a one in a lifetime experience. The teachers here can help the students one and one and actually have time for you. They are almost always available to you and really want the best for you. The teachers are not the only ones who have time for you. The other faculty on this campus will also take time out of their day for you. The structure here has really benefited me and has really helped prepare me for the future.
2.) What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school?
I have learned how to manage my time and motivate myself on a daily basis. I have grown into a better person who is now ready for my future. I am definitely a happier person and more mature.
3.) What might you have done differently during your boarding school experience?
I would not do anything different. I would tell them that it is what you make of it. If you come in with a bad attitude then you will be miserable and not make friends, but if you come in with a good attitude then you will enjoy it and make friends.
4.) What did you like most about your school?
I love the relationships you can build.
5.) Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students to your school?
I would recommend going to the gym or finding a release.

Academics:

1.) Describe the academics at your school - what did you like most about it?
The teachers here can help the students one and one and actually have time for you. They are almost always available to you and really want the best for you. There is also a tutorial period in between classes when you can go to your teachers for help or they can tell you to come to their tutorial so they can give you the extra help you need. There is also a mandatory learning center after school where students are to report to a teacher so they can receive extra help and even get a head start on their homework.

Athletics:

1.) Describe the athletics at your school - what did you like most about it?
They offer everyone here a chance to play and don't cut anyone from the team unless they mess up big time and are causing problems for the team. We have multiple sports and activities you can do. I did football my 7th grade year, wrestling, and soccer in high school. They offer golf, tennis, basketball, baseball, football, wrestling, soccer, track and field, cross-country, and lacrosse.

Art, Music, and Theatre:

1.) Describe the arts program at your school - what did you like most about it?
I was never in it personally but I enjoyed seeing the plays and what they acted out.

Extracurricular Opportunities:

1.) Describe the extracurriculars offered at your school - what did you like most about it?
They offer a volunteer program called key club, Boy Scouts, volunteer at the dog shelter, chess club, robotics club, debate club. I thought Boy Scouts was very fun, and I was glad I joined because you will almost never get the chance to do this again.

Dorm Life:

1.) Describe the dorm life in your school - what did you like most about it?
I was in the newest built barracks, and it was very nice. You have one roommate that will usually be your friend. They have showers with curtains and stalls, so you do have your privacy. I enjoyed how you would live with your friends and enjoy each other's company.

Dining:

1.) Describe the dining arrangements at your school.
We usually are served family style but due to covid this year we were served buffet style. The meals differ every day and sometimes they can repeat the next week but is very unlikely. They have a source of protein and carbs and if you do not like the meal, then you can eat a salad or they have deserts out for you to eat.

Social and Town Life:

1.) Describe the school's town and surrounding area.
Camden is a very small town and they have grocery stores around, but we rarely go into the town.
2.) Describe the social life at your school - what did you like most about it?
I love the camaraderie and the friendship we share here. Everyone makes friends fast and yes, it is like any group of friends. You will bicker and possibly fight, but it will never last long. It is a special kind of bond.
