Reflections and Advice:
1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative to other boarding schools?
I really appreciated the tight knit community feel. Going away from home at 14 is hard so it meant a lot that st. Johnsbury really made you feel like family.
2.) What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school?
The friends and memories you make at the academy are some of the strongest bonds. You will never forget your time there.
3.) What might you have done differently during your boarding school experience?
It’s really scary at first. Me and my best friend to this day met my first day and bonded over a show we both liked. The best thing to do is put yourself out there. You make fast friends and it keeps you from getting homesick.
4.) What did you like most about your school?
Excellent professors, beautiful buildings and really great kids.
5.) Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students to your school?
Every girl applying should try to live in Cramton. It is a great introductory dorm and was very recently renovated.
Academics:
1.) Describe the academics at your school - what did you like most about it?
I loved my classes. They were challenging in an abstract way that made you think and valued all viewpoints. Teachers make sure the classrooms are safe spaces for discussions from all viewpoints and that everyone is engaged. They are the types of classes I still miss now in college because the enthusiasm of the professors makes them so fun and engaging.
Athletics:
1.) Describe the athletics at your school - what did you like most about it?
I was not an athlete but the sports at the school made for very fun weekend activities and social engagement.
Art, Music, and Theatre:
1.) Describe the arts program at your school - what did you like most about it?
The arts program at the academy is unparalleled. Even if you choose not to be a part of it the talents that the students bring in or that the professors pull out make for amazing performances that are even sometimes showcased at morning chapel. The arts building on campus is one of the most beautiful on campus.
Extracurricular Opportunities:
1.) Describe the extracurriculars offered at your school - what did you like most about it?
Students are very involved in volunteer activities. During the semester your advisories will go out and volunteer together. Besides that, everyday after school students will be involved in a club, sport or play. This allows students to easily find others with similar interests and make friends. There’s everything from football to knitting club to meditation.
Dorm Life:
1.) Describe the dorm life in your school - what did you like most about it?
The dorms are beautiful buildings. I lived in both Home style dorms as well as college style dorms. Both were lovely and in both I made friends that I still have today. Friends that are now bridesmaids in my wedding. The connections you make at the academy last a lifetime. Proctors act as parents, mediators and supports to help you with any issues that arise. Dorm rooms at the academy are more spacious than rooms in most colleges.
Dining:
1.) Describe the dining arrangements at your school.
The dining hall is a social hub. The food is great and there’s so many options. After clubs students often congregate in the dining hall and hang out until it closes.
Social and Town Life:
1.) Describe the school's town and surrounding area.
Most everything you need in town is within walking distance. The deli is another hang out spot that has some of the best sandwiches on earth.
2.) Describe the social life at your school - what did you like most about it?
Everyone is unified by being away from home. You'll make friends quickly with boarding students through that. It also helps that the day students think the "dormies" are super cool. They all brag if they get to be friends with a dormie. You'll be a hot commodity.
