Reflections and Advice:
1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative to other boarding schools?
Diversity was and still is a huge aspect of the boarding school! The ability to learn from countless cultures and people allowed me to expand my horizon and my worldview. It made me a better citizen of the world and increased my communicative abilities due to experience with different languages.Workload and support! The workload was tremendous but the support from faculty and staff made everything better. Never will they spoon feed you anything but they never let you believe that anything was impossible. The school was always looking for ways to challenge the students and adapt to their needs. This kept the school moving forward in a progressive matter.
2.) What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school?
The best thing that happened to me in boarding school was the people. I did not have an easy childhood but I was built up and encouraged by countless people in my school. They made me felt at home, welcomed, and loved. All of this drove me to want to be better for those who invested so much in me. I didn't want to disappoint them ever and I still hold them in my heart till today!
3.) What might you have done differently during your boarding school experience?
I would have done nothing different. Advice for students going to boarding school... Be a dreamer and work hard at that dream. ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø school is the opportunity to grow in tremendous ways and see just how large the world is. Dream a dream and allow the challenges of boarding school to prepare you to see that dream come true.
4.) What did you like most about your school?
I loved the community of my school. I found family from all over the world and we are closer that anyone can imagine. I can message anyone at anytime and they will be excited to talk and catch up.
5.) Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students to your school?
Invest time in getting to know new people and learning from their experiences. This is the most valuable aspect that boarding school has to offer. Do not always hang out with people that you are comfortable with. Meet other people that will expand your horizons.
Academics:
1.) Describe the academics at your school - what did you like most about it?
I loved the passion that every teacher had in their field. They came with a plethora of experience and they never made you feel inferior. They always had the belief and mindset that we can surpass any limit. This gave them the freedom to push us further than we would expect. With time we saw tougher classes being created because students were in need of greater challenges. As much as the work load was extensive, the academic support was equally on pace.
Athletics:
1.) Describe the athletics at your school - what did you like most about it?
The athletics were outstanding. The Wrestling and Field Hockey team always brought home the most hardware and notoriety but the other sports such as ice hockey, soccer, lacrosse, football and at glances basketball would hold on its own. The pride of the Blue Knights was always felt and the training facilities were more than adequate for our success.
Art, Music, and Theatre:
1.) Describe the arts program at your school - what did you like most about it?
The visual arts were exceptional. Students had the opportunity to spend countless hours preparing for musicals, plays, and creating, directing, and producing their own plays. This was a unique opportunity that many would not have. In addition there were assemblies to teach etiquette in the theater depending on the different settings we are in. The directors also taught classes such as english, theater, playwriting, and more. The constant exposure to these professors and daily interactions excited many students who would never be on stage to seek performing opportunities.
Extracurricular Opportunities:
1.) Describe the extracurriculars offered at your school - what did you like most about it?
Wyoming Seminary has a plethora of extracurricular activities to choose from and if they didn't have your cup of tea, they allowed you to create it yourself. The school prides itself on student self-expression and exploration. Thus, they encourage and in many ways expect students to join extracurriculars in order to challenge themselves and learn more about themselves through interactions with others. The diversity of activity options was and still is mind boggling.
Dorm Life:
1.) Describe the dorm life in your school - what did you like most about it?
The dorms were fantastic. The opportunity to spend time with close friends and build trust was freeing. In addition, the school stressed creating not only a community but a family. I can still think back to all the times where we can proudly leave our doors open or unlocked and know that the respect was their that your items would not be stolen. In addition, on year, students brought game consoles and left them in the common area for the whole day. Not only were we trusting of the students, we were trusting of the cleaning staff. They loved us and always sought to protect us. I can still see them guarding our stuff during the day because they didn't want strangers playing with it.
Dining:
1.) Describe the dining arrangements at your school.
There is food on every corner. The community really loves the students and the students support many of the businesses. While eating at big chain restaurants, students are often found at small businesses. Access to food was easy and also within walking distance for the majority of it.In terms of on campus food, there was never much to complain about. You can eat as much as you want almost any time of the day. You can take left overs to your room and put them in a fridge. It was amazing.A major aspect of the dining system that I loved was the family style dining. Family style is dining that allows students, faculty, and staff to all eat together at the same table. This gives us an opportunity to see our professors as human beings and vice versa. We meet their family and tell jokes. Also, one student is designated to serve the table and clean up the dishes. This was to instill respect and the will to serve in us all. Family style occurred every weekday except Friday.
Social and Town Life:
1.) Describe the school's town and surrounding area.
The town was relatively safe. Our school is a bit isolated but not too much. There are plenty of things to do off school grounds but there really is no need. Students get so involved in other activities, they tend to see themselves traveling to other states and countries. Thus when you get back to school, you are only focused on your academics and getting back to your bed.
2.) Describe the social life at your school - what did you like most about it?
Social life was great. The school always hosted awesome events and social activities to ensure that students were interacting and making friends. One awesome thing that Wyoming Seminary does is to split the school into 4 teams or societies. On the last week of school, each society will compete in a series of events in the categories or sports, academics, and fine arts in order to win points for the team with the purpose of being crowned the Society Day Champions. This always made students excited to get to know one another.
