Reflections and Advice:
1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative to other boarding schools?
My 7 years as a dorm student could not have been any better. Being surrounded by people from all over the world, people with different perspectives, life stories, and goals, and being able to live life daily with them has allowed me to grow up stronger in my beliefs but also having an open mind to be able to communicate with many varieties of people. The diverse environment and the always willing to help mentality that flows throughout the entire campus are, in my opinion, what sets our school apart from most other boarding schools.
2.) What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school?
Being loved like crazy. from singing in the halls and having other members of the school staff singing with me to being able to vent to them, along with close friends, my best memory is the way i was loved at The King's Academy. I can never repay anyone for it,and regardless of how it may sound, I am forever appreciative of my 7 years with them.
3.) What might you have done differently during your boarding school experience?
listened more. but that's just a me thing.
4.) What did you like most about your school?
Definitely the relationships i built.
5.) Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students to your school?
Be willing to adjust, Seymour is not New York, but there is still way to enjoy your time at the school. Talk to Ms. Sasscer- you don't know me but trust me- she will get you through your worst day at King's Academy.
Academics:
1.) Describe the academics at your school - what did you like most about it?
The King's Academy offers quality education that will pay off if one applies themselves. The information is provided to you, it is up to you, the student, to decide what you want to do with it. They are not the best in the country but there is a conscious effort to keep on improving, keep updating, and keep providing the best quality education for the student. From my sixth grade year August 2009 to my graduation in May this year, 2016, there has been a massive change in the school. the sports, academics, and campus aesthetics have drastically improved.Academic support is always available from 3pm to 4pm, but there are many times where an extra hour doesn't help give you the full understanding you need. Many teachers recognize that, and they know that not every student is the same, some may need more help and the teachers are willing to give that extra help. the teachers care and they notice their students. There are no huge classes so there is a lot of time for one on one help with between student and teacher.
Hope this helps.
Athletics:
1.) Describe the athletics at your school - what did you like most about it?
Much better than ever. If you get a chance to visit the campus notice the football field and its new bleachers, also the Polly Enix Tibbets building. There are a series of other sports as well, and if you're not wanting to play organized competitive sports, you can easily walk into the gym and get a workout in or go play soccer, tennis, touch football, basketball, or whatever you choose.
Art, Music, and Theatre:
1.) Describe the arts program at your school - what did you like most about it?
The arts program challenges you to develop painting and patterns and mixtures that you look back and are amazed at what you did.Choir pushes you to be able to sing, it sounds obvious but it's pretty cool if you let it be.Theatre is amazing, the plays you do with your peers and you get to meet many other students who you may not have gotten to otherwise.I had the privilege of being in Art, Choir, and participating in two plays, Our Town and The Wizard of Oz . All were done with my friends and through much classroom interruptions, and many mess ups, we finished with the best we could give.
Extracurricular Opportunities:
1.) Describe the extracurriculars offered at your school - what did you like most about it?
There is National Honor Society lead by Ryan Moulden and Andrew Fultz and they have succeeded in making it more than just a get together, they have encouraged students to be more involved in the community beyond the school and our comfort zones. They took a group to a homeless shelter and gave students a chance to impact lives long with being impacted themselves. It helpful to help open our minds more to see the lives of people that do not have as much as us.There are many other groups to accommodate ones interest, like the debate team or chess club,
Dorm Life:
1.) Describe the dorm life in your school - what did you like most about it?
Awesome, great people who are there at all times of the day to help, even if you throw up at 2 AM.Mr. Phillip Tyre is an amazing photographer too! living with him is a massive perk, you may already look good but he will make you look better!! Guaranteed, but seriously, the dorms are great, both girls and guys, it is a real family that more times than not we grow to love each other. There's the beach trip, mall trips, possible ski trips, there is a lot to do both on and off campus
Dining:
1.) Describe the dining arrangements at your school.
The food has improved and they constantly provide meals that tantalize your taste buds.
Social and Town Life:
1.) Describe the school's town and surrounding area.
Beautiful mountains sights. Go up to the upper field and look and hopefully you will be amazed, the town life is nice, but I prefer the mountains, there are many ways to fill your interests.
2.) Describe the social life at your school - what did you like most about it?
I enjoyed being a leader in different aspects, from the athletic side to the academic to the social, i enjoyed the different vibes in different classrooms, the inside jokes, and the bonds from teacher to class.
