Reflections and Advice:
1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative to other boarding schools?
Small and rural community. Spring Street International School is a family. Faculty members meet students at their individual academic level. There is an emphasis on experiential education. SSIS travels as a school once in the fall, and once in the spring. This gives students a broad perspective of the world.
2.) What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school?
The community helped me grow as a learner, and individual as a whole. It prepared me for college, and gave me life long skills.
3.) What might you have done differently during your boarding school experience?
Make sure to reach out and make connections. There is always support at SSIS, and it is important to take advantage of all the students and teachers that want to help you and be available to you.
4.) What did you like most about your school?
The tight knit community.
5.) Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students to your school?
I do not.
Academics:
1.) Describe the academics at your school - what did you like most about it?
The classes were small and engaging. The teachers were very attentive. The academics were rigorous.
Athletics:
1.) Describe the athletics at your school - what did you like most about it?
The teachers were willing to make accommodations for sporting events, and were flexible. They were helpful and available for students when we needed to make up work.
Art, Music, and Theatre:
1.) Describe the arts program at your school - what did you like most about it?
The art class I took was incredible. The teacher was able to work with students at all skill levels. I was a beginner, and was able to improve my artistic skills quite a bit. While, advanced art students were also able to get the expertise needed to improve.
Extracurricular Opportunities:
1.) Describe the extracurriculars offered at your school - what did you like most about it?
There are many volunteer opportunities in the community. The island is a small place, and it is easy to make connections. This leads to students being able to participate in many extra-curricular activities that feed their interests.
Dorm Life:
1.) Describe the dorm life in your school - what did you like most about it?
The dorm is beautifully designed, and it feels like a home. However, I was a day student and did not live in the dorm.
Dining:

The dorm has a full time chef, and the food is very good.
Social and Town Life:
1.) Describe the school's town and surrounding area.
Friday Harbor is a very small, rural, and safe island in the Pacific Northwest.
2.) Describe the social life at your school - what did you like most about it?
The students are very supportive and kind to one another. Additionally, students have close relationships with their teachers, and teachers act as mentors to the students. Overall, the school community is very tight knit.
